Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a system that sends radial shockwaves through the surface of the skin and spread radially into the body. The body responds with increased metabolic activity around the site of the pain which stimulates and accelerates the healing process.

The process involves the practitioner to locate through palpation or ultrasound the area of discomfort/site of pain and is delivered using the applicator. Another advantage of the ESWT is that is produces an analgesic effect on the treated area.

ESWT can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal complaints such as plantarfasciitis, tendon attachment disorders, painful triggers and acupuncture points.

It is suggested that the individual undergoes between 3 – 5 treatments (in short intervals) to have a good effect.
