Why is Occupational Health and Safety Important In The Workplace?
Every workplace has a duty of care to ensure they provide a safe working environment for their workers. This means they have a duty of care to eliminate and reduce hazards and risks in the workplace which may increase ones risk of injury.
Companies who have a largely desk based workforce should be conducting regular reviews of the workers ergonomics and providing a workplace that encourages regular activity, reduced sedentary work behaviours where possible and suitable ergonomic work environments that are fitted to the individual rather than the individual being fitted to the worker.
Companies who have a largely manual based work force should be reducing manual handling where possible and eliminating hazards and risks associated with manual handling. Hazards and risks include awkward postures, repetition, heavy loads and static postures.
