Bench Press and Push Ups | Building Your Horizontal Pressing Strength

The bench press and push up are by far my favourite exercises for building horizontal pressing strength.  The push up requires little equipment and can be adjusted to suit ones ability, whilst the bench press can be loaded greatly to really challenge the body over lesser rep ranges.  Usually I will prescribe both within ones training program, incorporating the bench press or a similar derivative for either heavier lifts or unilateral loading/control and the push up for strength/endurance or speed/plyometrics.
