Bodyweight Ankle Mobiliser

The ankle joint is one of the most important joints in the body when it comes to movement needs.  Should we lack adequate dorsiflexion in the ankle, then this will result in compensatory changes further up the kinetic chain i.e. knee, hip, spine and further afield.  Should we lack adequate closed chain ankle dorsiflexion, walking, squatting, lunging and many other functional movements may be impacted.

In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing a bodyweight closed chain ankle mobiliser drill.

The aim is to take up the majority of ones closed chain ankle mobility (try and keep the heel on the floor) and then mobilise the ankle joint through movement of the knee forwards/backwards and side to side.  Should you feel any anterior ankle pain (possible impingement) during this mobiliser drill, please consult with your osteopath or physiotherapist for further assessment.
