Chin Up With An Isometric Hold – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a chin up with an isometric hold at the top phase of the pull movement.  The chin up is by far my favourite vertical pulling movement exercise and if I could choose only one upper body movement, this would be it.  If you are looking to develop and progress your chin up, then you should be looking to vary what and how you do this often through your program.  This might mean tweaking your sets and reps to increase total volume, one can also add external load to increase total effort, however I also feel one must look to alter their concentric, eccentric and start/mid point and end points of the movement.  In this video I have added in some isometric holds at the top phase of the pull to stress and challenge the body in the most difficult phase of the exercise.
