Crossfit Injuries

Crossfit is probably one of the fastest growing sports across the globe at the moment and as a result of the increased uptake in participation, there are bound to be a greater number of injuries occurring.

Common Crossfit Injuries

The most common cross fit injuries treated at Principle Four Osteopathy in our Melbourne City and Melbourne Docklands clinics include:

  • Knee pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Muscle strains
  • Ligament sprains
  • Post traumatic fractures

Many of the injuries suffered during Crossfit that are treated and managed at Principle Four Osteopathy are either overuse injuries, strains and sprains resulting from poor exercise technique or overloading too quickly.

Tips To Reduce Your Risk Of Injury

  • Undertake regular coaching with your Crossfit instructors.  Many of the Crossfit exercises are highly complex and take many years to refine and perfect.
  • Ensure you allow adequate time during the day and week to address soft tissue tightness and joint restrictions.  Failing to make time for mobility may increase your risk of developing an injury.
  • Plan your training program out with some thought.  This means selecting what days you are likely to train and when you will rest.  Often many Crossfitters that have attended the clinic for treatment have not allowed adequate rest days or have progressively found themselves increasing their workload session after session without an appropriate recovery week.
  • Give yourself a recovery week.  Typically within a periodised program for an athlete, there will be a recovery week or down week.

Keen To Do More To Help Yourself With Regards To Managing Your Body?

If you are currently participating regularly in Crossfit, then a general check up with your Osteopath at Principle Four Osteopathy in the Melbourne City and Melbourne Docklands clinic can help to identify and treat any particular tight or restricted areas of the body.
