Foot Position In The Bodyweight Squat

The typical stance one takes when performing a body weight squat is usually around hip – shoulder width apart with the feet often slightly turned out.  When it comes to bodyweight squatting, I would argue that there is no such thing as the perfect stance, it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.  When it comes to handling big heavy weights on a squat, obviously you would want to find the stance that gives you the best stability/mobility/control for that weight and one that is safest for you.  For bodyweight squats I like to get my clients to constantly vary their foot positions so that they have to adapt their body and build mobility and strength through varied movement patterns.  In the image below you will see a couple of examples of how this could be done.
