In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams performing a low to high cable chop with anterior press (pallof press). In each of the chop and lift movements you will see that each movement is slightly different and therefore demands the body to adapt at each rep. The chop and lift is a great trunk exercise as one is required to generate force with a load across the bodies midline and combining this with the anterior press hold (pallof press), one is required to counter the rotational pull of the cable load and therefore brace against it. Generating strength across the midline (rotational power) combined with an anterior press hold (anti rotation exercise) are two important functions that the body must be able to perform in everyday life.

Free motion cable chop with press / Exercise: Step + Chop + Press Focus: Integrating trunk rotational strength (moving load across the mid line) + pallof press (anti rotation core exercise that integrates the upper body and trunk) at varying positions of the chop. This is performed from a low pulley position, but can also be undertaken at varying heights.
