How many of that work in the city in sedentary jobs actually get up and move around at lunch time?  Based on my clients attending the clinic, I would say it would be a 50/50 split.  Some individuals cannot wait until lunch to get out and about and away from their desk.  Others use this time to filter through their emails and eat their lunch at the desk.  Many of my clients often attend the clinic complaining of neck pain, back pain, headaches, shoulder pain and other related strains and sprains.   Many of these either triggered or caused by prolonged static sedentary postures.  The simplest and best thing that those with neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain and other musculoskeletal strains and sprains is to get up and move around as often as possible.  Osteopath Heath Williams gives a few simple tips on reducing aches and pains in the workplace.

  1. Avoid sitting for longer than 30 minutes
  2. Change postures frequently.  There is no such thing as perfect posture or position
  3. Deliberately get away from the office at least 3 times out of 5 in the working week
  4. Go for a 20 minute walk during your lunch break
  5. Don’t check your emails during your lunch break
  6. Stretch regularly
  7. Hydrate frequently
  8. Have your workstation assessed

If most of my clients did these things on a regular basis, their need for regular treatment would reduce.  Many of you would say, why would I tell my clients to do this when it may reduce treatment numbers for their condition?  Well the answer is, the sooner my clients get better, the more likely they will tell friends, family or colleagues about the clinic and how we can help.
