Neck And Low Back Pain

Neck Pain and Low Back Pain

Neck pain and low back pain are two of the most common musculoskeletal complaints typically presenting to Principle Four Osteopathy.  This correlates with the statistics that show that neck pain and lower back pain are two of the most common musculoskeletal complaints that the general population will experience at some point in their life.

As our clinic is located in the heart of the Melbourne City CBD, we see a range of workers whose job roles are either sedentary (desk based) or physical (manual handling) as well as the active or sporting individual, who are sometimes prone to experiencing neck pain or lower back pain.

The vast majority of neck pain and low back pain are musculoskeletal in nature and typically and pain generators typically involve the joints, ligaments and surrounding soft tissue muscles.  In many circumstances, the majority of neck pain and low back pain complaints will improve over 0-6 weeks, with some cases taking longer to heal (6+ weeks).

The role of the allied health practitioner (osteopath, chiropractor, physiotherapist, myotherapist) when you present to the clinic with acute neck pain or low back pain is to assess you, provide you with treatment and management advice and reassurance.  Treatment and management may involve manual therapy, exercise prescription, pain management  and advice around ergonomics so to avoid any further aggravation or maintenance of your complaint.
