Static Seated Bodyweight Cable Row

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrating a static bodyweight cable row.  This is a variation on the traditional horizontal row that is often prescribed to train the muscles of the back i.e. lats, rhomboids, trap and muscles of the shoulder girdle.  Adding the static bodyweight squat hold requires one to maintain stability through the body whilst performing the row.

Variations on this exercise can include:

  • Start position – seated (increased stability) vs split kneeling, static squat or lunge position or standing (less stable)
  • Load
  • Bilateral (2 hand pull) vs single arm pull (you will be required to maintain a stable trunk against the rotational pull
  • Static (no movement in torso) vs dynamic (movement through the torso)
