Wall Assisted Static Lunge Exercise Progressions

In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a bilateral hands on wall static lunge.  The wall was used in the prescription of this exercise as the goal was to add a static lunge to the clients program to build on lower limb strength and function whilst allowing them the opportunity to feel supported (by hands on the wall). The wall also had an added bonus of limiting anterior knee translation in the front leg and therefore increased the contribution of the hip muscles to the exercise.

In the image below you will see a further progression where the individual has moved from bilateral wall support to single hand wall support and then no wall support.  By removing the hands from the wall we reduces ones stability and the client is required to work harder to control this movement.  These progressions in addition to sets, reps, rep duration and rest breaks are just some of the ways we can further develop ones overall strength and function.
